A daughter of two immigrant parents from Haiti, Joelle was born and raised in Northern Virginia and found her way to the Bay Area through Rocketship. Joelle attended Christopher Newport University where she received a bachelor’s degree in Political Science, and her graduate degree from Penn State University in Educational Leadership. Her career in education started when she joined Teach for America and taught middle school special education in South Carolina. She transitioned to DC a few years later as a founding teacher at The Excel Center Adult Charter High School where she supported the development of the special education program. In the 2018-19 school year, Joelle joined Rocketship Alma as a STEM teacher for 2 years before accepting an assistant principal, and now principal role, at Rocketship Futuro Academy. As a result of both her personal and professional journey, she has fermented her unwavering belief that no child should ever have to beat the odds.
