Rocketship Parent Leaders Host 1,000+ San Jose Residents at Mayoral Candidate Forum

By Amy Parada, Manager of Parent Leadership & Organizing | June 14, 2022

On May 19th volunteer parent leaders from San Jose Rocketship Public Schools led the largest Mayoral Candidate Forum of the political season with over 1,000 attendees. This is parent power in action and the power of our Rocketship community. It’s the power of WE, and that power is now ingrained in the story of our mayoral candidates’ journey and into the term of our next mayor. Celebrating Neurodiversity

by Vanessa Flores | April 7, 2022

I work with children with learning differences because of my brother. My brother Jayden was diagnosed with autism at age 3 and a half. In kindergarten, my mom enrolled him in our neighborhood’s district school because it seemed like it would be the best option for him at the time. It wasn’t a great experience for Jayden at all. My baby was reading, at the same level as his classmates.…

Stronger Together: Building Community in Fort Worth

May 25, 2021

No matter where we go, community will always be one of Rocketship’s strongest values. As we continue on with Rocketship Texas’s charter application process, we’ve been eager to get to connect and strengthen relationships with those in the Fort Worth community. In April, we held our first in-person community event, a Fort Worth Community Resource Event. We hosted this event to not only get to know our school community, but also inform Fort Worth residents of local resources that can support them with job networking, personal development, healthcare, and more. The Fort Worth community has historically been an area impacted…

“Words cannot describe the relief my family feels…”

by Rocketship Public Schools | June 19, 2020

The COVID-19 pandemic is disproportionately impacting low-income communities of color across our country – the very communities our mission compels us to serve. The impact of this crisis on our families can be catastrophic: lost housing, food insecurity, reduced access to healthcare. These are key factors that cause children to experience “toxic stress” which research has shown can derail student learning and delay child development.  When our most vulnerable families needed help, our community stepped up to provide critical support.  On April 2, we launched the Rocketship Family Relief Fund. In just six weeks, we raised $400,000. By the end…
