Meet Angel McNeil, Founding Principal of our New School in DC
We have exciting news! Rocketship is opening its third school in Washington, D.C. in August 2020 just two blocks from the Fort Totten Metro Station in Ward 5! Angel McNeil, the founding principal, and a tenured school leader, sat down with us to share what makes this new PK3 – 2nd grade school unique and why she’s thrilled to build this new community of Rocketeers.

Learn More About Angel
Angel McNeil is the Founding Principal of the third Rocketship school in Washington DC. Angel first joined Rocketship as an Assistant Principal at Rocketship Fuerza Community Prep in San Jose, California in 2015. Angel then served as a Founding Assistant Principal at Rocketship Rise Academy, the first Rocketship school in Washington, D.C. Rocketship Rise launched the largest charter school opening in Washington DC history, earning Tier 1 status – the highest possible ranking on the DC performance management framework – during its inaugural year.
Prior to joining Rocketship, Angel served families for over a decade in both Washington DC and her native Philadelphia. She has served as a pre-k and kindergarten teacher, literacy coach, and a member of the initial curriculum team that cultivated ‘Every Child Ready’, an award-winning early childhood curriculum. Angel began her education journey as a literacy tutor while an American University undergraduate. It was as an AmeriCorps tutor that Angel began to dedicate herself to this work. Outside of her International Relations degree from American, Angel holds a Master’s of Elementary Education and Curriculum and Instruction from Grand Canyon University. When not working Angel enjoys anything food related, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.
