Parent Power Drives Change in San Jose
Community power is one of the cornerstones of the Rocketship model, and once again, our Rocketship California parents are making news for their advocacy on behalf of our larger community. Last week, the dedicated parent and staff leaders of Rocketship Fuerza Community Prep celebrated a significant victory—after 10 years of advocacy, we finally got to cut the ribbon on a new crosswalk on Jackson Ave.
San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan, City Councilmember Peter Ortiz, and more community leaders joined Rocketship families, educators, and neighbors for the official ribbon cutting. And so did multiple news outlets! Telemundo 48 and Kron 4 featured this community success story and celebratory event on their stations, highlighting the power of parent advocacy to improve San Jose.
This crosswalk is more than just a new piece of infrastructure—it’s a symbol of what our community can achieve when we work together. It shows the power of parent advocacy, the strength of our collective voice, and our commitment to creating safer, stronger communities for our students and families. This is the essence of Rocketship’s belief in parent power—helping families not just participate in their children’s education but also advocate for meaningful change in their communities.
Thank you to the Rocketship Fuerza Community Prep leaders for using their voices to make San Jose a safer place for everyone.
