Rocketship California Is Getting Results For Our Rocketeers
by Maricela Guerrero, Rocketship California Executive Director
Our educators have the honor and privilege of working with our families and partnering with them to unleash the full potential of our Rocketeers! We made a promise to our families 16 years ago – to unleash their student’s academic potential. In October, the State of California released SBAC results for the 2022-2023 school year, and I am proud to announce that we are continuing to outperform and making good on our promise to families. Rocketship California’s overall proficiency in math increased by 2%, keeping us 2% ahead of the state overall proficiency rate. Our proficiency rate for ELA held steady, we are still outpacing the state, whose average decreased year-to-year. Although our scores have not returned to the heights we achieved in 2019, all 13 of our schools are still outperforming their local district and the state average for socio-economically disadvantaged students. Overall, many Rocketship California schools outperform their local district averages for ALL students – proof that we are closing the achievement gap.
In short, we’re building traction in partnership with our families leading to measurable gains, and although there is more work to be done, our educators are working hard to continue that momentum and see even more significant gains this year. I am proud of our students and educators, and I know that as we work to unleash our students’ potential, we will continue to close the COVID gap and close the achievement gap in our lifetime.
